This week on Restaurant: Impossible, Robert Irvine and his crew are in Exton, Pennsylvania to makeover Ship Inn. Ship Inn is a fine dining restaurant whose owner has an overbearing management style and is supposedly $895,000 in debt. Robert needs to get Michael to embrace change and repair his relationships in hopes of turning the restaurant around.
As I normally do with Restaurant: Impossible episodes, I searched around the Internet to read stories, comments and reviews about Ship Inn to get an idea of how the restaurant is doing since Robert Irvine visited, and here is what I found (note - all reviews are post Restaurant: Impossible):
- "Went to lunch and i have to say Carrie did a great job and they just had remodeled since i was there last."
- "The food was excellent. And I couldn't say that before. I never had a bad meal there over the years but it wasn't very exciting after a while. The menu is re-done and smaller and the main room that used to be so dark is light and airy and fabulous and the chairs are super comfortable. Anyway I just want to encourage people to go give it a try it was worth it. And the prices were fair."
- "Fantastic service and really good food. Super nice people and very dog friendly!!!"
- "Dined here yesterday . While I'm not a fan of casual dining, I did find the new airy remodel nice. The Norwegien Salmon was very good as were the cheese crepes for dessert. Harry , our server, was pleasant and attentive. I'm glad that the original dining rooms are intact and look forward to returning in the fall to the cozy rooms and fireplaces."
- "Newly refurbished for a TV show, the dining room is bright & airy, new floors & paint job and modern decor. I had the Chipotle onion rings for starter & crispy eggplant pita for entree (it was very good). And two amazing pineapple old-fashioneds! The only thing that keeps that 5th star off is the limited vegetarian offers on the menu. I feel like I tried all the vegetarian food items, so why should I come back regularly? Service was great, as usual, though. I hope the best for this Chester County establishment!"
- "Great place to go looks so exquisite inside with the updates that restaurant impossible did! And the food was great"
- "Great food, great service and the renovations look amazing. We were here for a family event on May 1st and everything was perfect. Will be back soon for sure. Outdoor patio looks great for Happy Hour."
Negative Reviews:
- "This place is averages out to just okay. The prices are ridiculously high, almost 20 for a cheeseburger with no other toppings other than LTO. The onion rings were not freshly battered. The drink was weak and incorrectly made (rye in an old fashion?) the crab cake meal was low on crab but otherwise okay. The decor is nice since they renovated. There is a nice outdoor section now. The service was mediocre and it took 35 minutes for two meals and there 4 tables filled. The fries were soggy and the burger was way over cooked. The parking lot is weird too, with a random fence sticking out in the middle of it… that’s all I got. Pass on this one."
- "Came to check out the updates by Restaurant Impossible. The space looked great and service was really good. Tried a few of the newer dishes including the Korean BBQ Cheesesteak and the Brie Appetizer. They were good but in my opinion a bit overpriced for casual fare. The menu is lacking enough casual priced options, need more sandwiches (wraps, chicken sandwich, etc) to be more attractive for a casual meal."

The reviews for Ship Inn since the Restaurant Impossible makeover have been mostly positive with people liking the atmosphere, makeover, and food. The few negative reviews mention high prices. The Ship Inn is currently listed for sale for $2,195,000, so if sold, it should wipe out the debt mentioned on the show. The owners Michael and Gertie also own a Bed & Breakfast in Exton, PA, so they own some valuable property.
