Bene Pizza and Pasta in Omaha, Nebraska, which was featured on season 10 of Restaurant Impossible has closed. The restaurant posted the following message on their Facebook page:
In the comments of that message, the restaurant said they closed for good on July 18th, 2015. You may remember Bene Pizza and Pasta as the restaurant with the arcade/pinball machines inside and here is the original update. This is the third restaurant out of seven to close from season 10 (2014-2015) of Restaurant Impossible, and the Restaurant Impossible Update Page has been updated with this information.
"After 14 years we have decided to close the doors to Be'ne Pizza and Pasta.
The Lanphier Family would like to sincerely thank all of our Loyal and faithful customers all of these years. We have seen so many families grow over the years and have remembered every face that came through our doors.
Be well. Peace love and family"

Are restaurants having hard time? or is it just these businesses were already in trouble?
ReplyDeleteThe failure rate seems to be creeping up but in fairness any he saved is better than saving none. They are helping.
I like the concept of this show but finally had to quit watching it. He was just so awful to people. He goes in acting like he cares, and the people often do really need a wake up call, but he just unnecessarily humiliates and infantilizes them, shouting and getting in their face, as well as spitting out their food, fake gagging, dumping over tables full of food onto the floor and calling it crap, the worst thing he's ever had, etc. He's just awful. Then he circles back to play caring hero/dad at the end. I think it's just another platform to sell drama without respect to these people's lives. If he helps a restaurant, that's great, and if he has to get animated to get through to someone to help them help themselves, that's what it takes, but it doesn't need to be so humiliating and ugly and overdone.
ReplyDeleteHe also has some blind spots. I remember an episode where he was telling these guys in a strip mall restaurant to do a buffet station and told them to charge something like $20 for it, which was already a lot for the area and that was before drinks or anything else. Maybe that works in some high priced city but not in the outskirts of some sleepy city out of the limelight. I read that they just got rid of it after he left.
That article also said a lot of the drama that makes the people look stupid is manufactured, like they set up scenarios where the owner or chef is guaranteed to fail and look bad just so Robert can swoop in and look so much better doing it.
Also those owners admitted afterwards that they weren't broke and in debt like it was portrayed on the show and really just used it to get some visibility. So this show isn't exactly that faked hidden camera one, but what we see on screen has definitely been manipulated. I've heard that about other FN shows too, like they'll cut off somebody's burner or whatever to create a problem the person has to deal with. Makes me wonder about Chopped. That one's hard enough already but I wonder if, for example, when some pan just isn't getting hot enough or a blender won't work, if the show people had anything to do with rigging the gear.
Emily was so fun and cute. I wanted to kiiiiiss herrrrr.
ReplyDeleteI remember this episode. Robert had a guy show up with a box truck and pretended he was packing up all the video games and moving them off the property. The owner looked ready to throw some punches! That was priceless.
ReplyDeleteMan why couldn't she do it next week!!!!! Dom and Alex get on my nerves on how they won't get eliminated. Dom only had 2 good weeks out of like 9 and Alex isn't good either. They hasn't stepped up much and even tho she couldn't take any criticism and she doesn't have a ton of food authority I could stand her. Eh about Matt he got more mature but I miss rue and would of loved an African chef at food network .
ReplyDeleteremember: nothing is real in television.
ReplyDeleteThey're all characters.
Some are better actors than others.
In the end, both of them can fall flat on their faces in the next episode and whichever one sucks less will get cut. Arnold also has the capability to flame out early (no innuendo intended) but I think the producers like him around to spice up the interview bits; he's pretty entertaining and with Michelle gone you need him to pop in and ask "WTF did we just see" when Dom or Alex do something stupid. Again.
ReplyDeleteMy money is on Rue to come back via Star Salvation. But I'm still waiting to learn what South African cuisine tastes like.
ReplyDeleteThe food must have REALLY sucked. Today, people hate cooking so much they'll eat any crap as long as it's conveniently located.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I never quite put that together. I liked her well enough and I guess I felt like I had to support her since she was the only girl left. But you are right, she didn't take criticisms very well and you are right in that she can always come back and say she nevr was eliminated. I get what Eddie said.
ReplyDeleteBut at the same time, I am not sure being a quiter is a step up from being eliminated.
I feel like Jay was the chosen one from day 1. Not that he hasn't performed and cooked well, but I am not sure I see a "winner". Just an average dude that cooks decent.
ReplyDeleteI think it would have happened. I can totally see Bobby saying "C'mon man, you can leave us, you are the last man standing!"
ReplyDeleteThey charrged 14 bucks for a small cheese pizza....
