I've been pretty busy, so haven't been able to get one of these out for a bit. Here is some recent news involving Food Network shows and chefs/personalities from the Food Network:
- Chopped is still filming new episodes, and they recently filmed their 300th episode. (Link)
- Unwrapped host and Restaurant Impossible producer Marc Summers recently revealed that he had a five year battle with cancer and that he is currently in remission. At one point a doctor told him he only had six months to live. (Link)
- The South Beach Wine and Food Festival (SOBEWFF) is this weekend in Miami, Florida, and a lot of people from the Food Network will be there. (Link)
- Emily Ellyn from season 8 of Food Network Star was recently on Cutthroat Kitchen and ended up winning $17,800. (Link) The winner of season 8 of Food Network Star, Justin Warner recently had a 1-hour special on the Cooking Channel about chocolate. (Link)
- Paula Deen recently reached a deal with Compass Media to have a one minute daily tip and a 30-minute weekly show on the radio. It will be targeted to Country and News-Talk stations. (Link)
- Geoffrey Zakarian recently ate at McDonald's for the first time. (Link)
- Guy Fieri's proposed Sonoma County winery was shut down by the zoning board. (Link)
- The next season of Food Network Star is currently filming in Los Angeles, and it looks like the hosts will be Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay according to a casting company site. (Link). Alton Brown is still on tour with his live show which may be the reason he cannot host, but maybe this could be a reason as well?
- Ina Garten is suing a frozen food company for selling unauthorized look-alikes of her frozen food brand. Judging by the picture above, she may have a case. (Link)
Someone on this site seems fixated on the idea of Giada and Alton as a couple. I haven't heard even a whisper of this anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's shocking about Marc Summers. Between that and his accident, he's had a really rough last few years.
ReplyDeleteAlton divorced his wife this past December, so you never know. However, I can't see them as a couple at all and don't believe Alton really likes Giada all that much.
ReplyDeleteWhat ever happened to NFNS Lenny???
ReplyDeleteI'm saddened to hear that about Alton and his wife. But I agree with you, I've always had the feeling he doesn't like Giada at all.
ReplyDeleteAfter he won, it came out that he'd posted a lot of hateful things online. He used a lot of racist, sexist and homophobic language, and I suspect that sank his ship at Food Network. After the Paula Deen debacle, you'd think they'd vet candidates more carefully.
ReplyDeleteI agree also that he is no fan of Giada. Alton's personality seemed to take a nose dive this past year. Seems that he was having problems on the home front.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, I had not idea. Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteHe does seem really mean nowadays, but I don't know how much of that is because of Cutthroat Kitchen.
ReplyDeleteRetro modern? Instead of dragging that stupid sledgehammer around, Irvine should toss a dictionary Tanya's way. Tell her to look up retro, modern and oxymoron. Sledgehammer and moron too for that matter.
ReplyDeleteAs hot as those new Obamabulbs get, it shouldn't take too long for those albums to start warping and look even junkier.
Please. That guy needed a kick in the ass. While he was going around drinking a keg of his favorite beer every week and throwing a pity party, he was completely neglecting to clean his kitchen which could've killed somebody.
ReplyDeleteOh, no doubt, he needed help. He should be referred to a professional.
ReplyDeleteNever took a physics class?
ReplyDeleteCompact CFL bulbs not only use less electricity but they put a far lower percent of that energy into heat. They are much cooler overall.
The guy got a KIdney from his sister in law and then made fun of her afterwards? The brother should have kicked his ass for that, that is just slimey, what an ungrateful POS.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, "Guest", CFL's give off very little heat, unlike the old incandescents. Epic Fail just couldn't resist throwing the "Obama" reference in there to show how ignorant he is of CFL's, and how much he hates all things that he thinks are Obama-related, whether they are or not.
ReplyDeleteAs for the restaurant, I doubt that two days will solve the family dynamic. Mom is controlling and determined her "little boys" will continue to be just that, as she feels that is the only way they'll continue to have anything to do with her. The two brothers will continue to have relationship problems because they are in competition with each other. If they haven't gotten along since high school, it won't change overnight, or without serious family counseling.
The kidney donor seemed like such a nice, warm and sincere person. What she did for her brother-in-law was the ultimate unselfish act. She AND her husband had to suffer through major surgery and recuperation so brother-in-law could have quality of life. As she has one kidney now she could potentially put her own health in jeopardy in the event of some future unforeseen health crisis. Her husband is entitled to his resentment of his brother treating his wife like crap......yea....and kick his ass while your at it!!!! The mean spirited brother and his protective mommy outta butt out of the business. They will be it's downfall.
ReplyDeleteI thought Alton was gay....
ReplyDeleteI kept waiting for them to work on food and the actual restaurant and they did nothing until about minute 49 of the show...
ReplyDeleteRobert said "you need something to make people drive here for" but what did he give them that would do that? Broccoli raab on the chicken parm? Robert even said that was "to make it look bigger". Not many people will drive to get some broccoli on their parm....
The place got a face lift and looked better but it was still cafeteria looking when they left.
Ok, so the Alton and Giada stuff is just online "shipping" as the kids say.
ReplyDelete$3 steak is brought back? Despite him being told he was losing money on every dish of it that went out? No wonder he closed.
ReplyDeleteYou can bring back the old menu if you like. But just don't do it the way he was. My bet was that he went back to exactly the way it was.
Was kinda hoping Robert took his sledgehammer to a pinball machine. Imagine how much time and effort it takes to clean kid cooties off of each of those machines. It's not a game room, it's germ room.
ReplyDeleteI liked watching Food Network Star but it has really gone downhill. Many others agree. It could be easily fixed. Will Food Network ever learn? Chef Lenny was an embarrassment. Justin Warner is monotone and almost as bad as Danushka, personality-wise. "Pie-style" has no credibility and Russell and his culinary sins were just too extreme. Alton seems to have too much of an impatient, snappy ego. The show has become too much of a personality/fashion contest. Much good audience feedback has been given. Love the comments on pg. 5 -- http://blog.foodnetwork.com/star-talk/2014/08/10/star-exclusive-watch-the-winners-first-interview-season-10/#idc-cover
ReplyDeleteI think DEMANDRA has it right.
