Here is some recent news relating to Food Network shows and chefs/personalities:
- Bobby Flay recently sold two horses for over a million dollars each at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Kentucky. (Link)
- Worst Cooks in America is still casting for the upcoming season, and they are not only looking for bad cooks, but people with a crush on Anne Burrell or Bobby Flay. (Link)
- Country music star Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn is filming a pilot for the Food Network called Steakout. It is a traveling show that visits steakhouses across the country. (Link)
- Scott Conant is no longer involved with Scarpetta in New York City, but may be opening a second restaurant in Miami. (Link)
- Here is an article that tries to rank and grade many food competition shows over the years, and there is a lot of discussion in the comments regarding the rankings. (Link)
- Top Chef alum Richard Blais will host a new show on the Food Network called Hungry Games. The show begins on October 20th and Richard "will investigate the psychology and science behind our decisions and cravings when it comes to food." (Link)
These cooking competition shows are getting tiresome, boring, redundant, and generally annoying. I actually long for the days of Emeril Lagasse and his show. At least you learned something.
ReplyDeleteIs Lenny going to get a show or at least be seen on FN?
ReplyDeleteI meant to hit reply and hit the "up" arrow. I certainly hope not...he's a disgusting pig.
ReplyDeleteRichard Blais is talented...no doubt, but I'm glad he's hosting and not competing, because he makes the strangest, contorted faces when he cooks and competes.
ReplyDeleteso is Sharon Osborne but she still has a show.
ReplyDeleteHungry Games?! I hope Cookie Monster sues.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I agree with the rankings of all the food competition shows... except I would give the Great American Baking show a higher rating. I have a soft spot in my heart for that show.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the exact same thing. He doesn't have much self-confidence which results in those faces. I have difficulty watching him when he does that.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the Steakhouse show. There's been many episodes of various shows where they visit steakhouses. It will be interesting to see how it's received.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree. I do wonder what's up with the country music star thing. Trisha Yearwood has been on for a while and now Kix Brooks. I think FN is just looking for a "name" that will draw in viewers.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Emeril, I saw an advertisement on TV tonight for a show on TNT that starts 10/3, starring Emeril. It's a competition type show where home cooks compete to get their entree on a major chain's menu. Didn't catch the name.
ReplyDeleteAlmost identical to a show hosted by Monti Carlo (Masterchef season 3) on the FYI channel called Make My Food Famous. Only difference is the restaurant in the FYI show is not a chain.
Negative people are also tiresome, boring, and redundent...especially annoying.
ReplyDeleteGuy Fieri had a show like this for the winner to get an menu entry on TGI Friday's.
ReplyDeleteThat show looks like it will be interesting.
ReplyDeleteMake My Food Famous was good and I'm sure with Emeril's personality, his will be good also.
ReplyDeleteLOL, people with a crush on Anne or Bobby. There was one mildly amusing contestant last season with a crush on Bobby so of course they must make that the new gimmick and do it to death.
ReplyDeleteI never saw that show. What was it about?
ReplyDeleteIt actually just started about 3 weeks ago. It's on the FYI channel which used to be called something else, but it has TONS of cooking things on it. It's exactly the same premise at the Emeril show I mentioned above except it's not a chain restaurant. The first episode was in a NY city restaurant, I think.
ReplyDeleteThat lady was so funny, but as a gimmicky thing with at least one in every season, that will quickly lose the funny aspect.
ReplyDeleteSo are men or women supposed to have a crush on Anne? She used to say she had a "hubby" but Ted Allen outed her on TV if there was any doubt.
ReplyDeleteSo are you Jerry.
ReplyDeleteEvery Guy Ferry dish sounds something like this:
ReplyDelete"A mountain of bacon slathered in an avalanche of melty cheese over creamy polenta".
Trying to replace the Paul Dean crowd I guess
ReplyDeleteLOL except you didn't say that loudly enough. It should have been "A MOUNTAIN OF BACON!!! ........" etc. etc.
ReplyDeleteHe did? When did that happen? And how?
ReplyDeleteThanks! I could definitely see myself watching this show if I got that channel.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I like her personality a lot.
ReplyDeleteAgree w/ you Hoppy. I thought she was so darned cute and funny, but repeating it as a gimmick...uh, no.
ReplyDeleteShe's definitely gay...thought I heard her talking about being engaged and/or married to her wife.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I knew she had said some time that she's gay but I hadn't heard that Ted Allen had any involvement. My guess is that Ted knew Anne wasn't keeping it a secret so he felt comfortable saying what he said. He's gay himself and a gentleman so I can't imagine he would "out" someone who didn't want the information made public.
ReplyDeletefyi, is the former Biography channel. And yes, the network's name is lowercase with a comma. It seems to be defining itself as a lifestyle channel similar to Bravo before it went all housewives, all the time.
ReplyDeleteShe was the veteran of four or five marriages and was looking to make Bobby her next.
ReplyDeleteYep. She has a wife.
ReplyDeleteShe was pretty funny, but I think she really needed a dose of reality!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that. I don't think we used to get Biography so I was surprised we got fyi.
