The 2014 Daytime Emmy awards were announced yesterday, and Bobby Flay won the Emmy for Outstanding Culinary Host for his show Bobby Flay's Barbeque Addiction. He beat out Giada De Laurentiis, Rachael Ray, and April Bloomfield/Sean Brook in this category to win the Emmy.
Giada De Laurentiis (Giada at Home) and Bobby Flay (Bobby Flay's Barbeque Addiction) lost to April Bloomfield/Sean Brook (The Mind of a Chef) in the Outstanding Culinary Program Category.
Giada In Paradise, which was a special on the Cooking Channel, took home 3 Emmy awards in the categories of Outstanding Special Class Directing, Outstanding Achievement in Single Camera Photography, and Outstanding Achievement in Single Camera Editing. The show won all 3 categories it was nominated for.

LOL, so true!
ReplyDeleteGiada just shows her boobs...she doesn't have to be funny.
ReplyDeleteIf you listen closely, they are no longer promising a show. They promise to send them to the food festival, featuring them in the magazine. But no show is mentioned.
ReplyDeleteWow, I hadn't noticed that! Why bother?
ReplyDeleteSince this show has live and video challenges I would not be surprised if they review videos to make sure their impressions are accurate. Especially when someone came across as so knowledgeable in a task yet in all subsequent tasks was a complete washout. Also this is Food Network not Bravo so who knows what rules they use.
ReplyDeleteThere was also the question of whether seeing Payday bars strapped all over Lenny's naked torso would induce one to buy the product.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the video was still better than the Mounds/Almond Joy effort.
A big deal has always been made about that. Frank Beard's lack of facial hair is likely kept that way for that purpose.
ReplyDeleteIna has class. Apparently FN has decided that's a detriment.
ReplyDeleteThe wins for Giada in Paradise apparently had nothing to do with Giada. LOL
ReplyDeleteYou mean her BOOBS did not win an award...she loves to display them at every opportunity.
ReplyDeleteNext year there will probably be a category called Best FN Boob Shots and there will be 1 nominee.
ReplyDeleteJust cannot get into Reuben with the fast speaking, so many Spanish words thrown in and that beard. Even Aron Sanchez doesn't throw in as much Spanish as Reuben. It's like his "thing" and it's very annoying.
ReplyDeleteThat Mounds/Almond Joy video was a waste of time and the Reese's one just put me to sleep.
ReplyDeleteAgreed Kate. I felt this whole episode was a waste of time and we didn't see them cook one thing. Yes, chops in front of the camera are necessary, but so is cooking.
ReplyDeleteI felt with all Luca had going for him that they should have kept him in the competition and instead, should have sent home one of the 2 that didn't even put food on the plate. As quickly as Luca picked it up, he could have certainly done it in the main competition. I don't know how long a period of time there is between being eliminated and being on Star Salvation - a day or two? - but he sure got it together fast!
ReplyDeleteI used to enjoy Alton's shows when he did the food nerd type shows. I don't know what they were called, but they were all about cooking, how and why. Now that he's on Cutthroat Kitchen and other things, I don't care for him at all. Don't much like his personality on FNS either. He comes off as better than everyone else.
ReplyDeleteLenny's shtick seems like it was cast by the producers. It doesn't seem real. And he got caught talking out of his behind once already passing a corn tortilla off as a sopapilla. I can't decide if the fact that he annoys be is because he's truly annoying or if he's just being cast that way.
ReplyDeleteShe's grown on me. She could win this if she continues on her trajectory.
ReplyDeleteAlton comes off as "I can't believe they're paying me to do this s**t." But as long as the checks cash... It's all showbiz.
ReplyDeleteIf the food is good enough, everything else is noise.
ReplyDeleteThe Payday team being in the bottom was totally NOT Lenny's doing. He gave 125%. I would have eliminated Christopher, but his cooking saved him. I think Sarah, Loreal and Christopher in any order need to be the next three to go. I'm rooting my heart out for Lenny. He's entertaining AND he can seriously cook.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you regarding the bottom three. But I'm rooting for Emma and Luca.
ReplyDeleteOf all of the contenders.....it is Lenny that I would happily tune into. He is unique, sincere, entertaining, genuine and can cook! Cowboy food would be FUN! The rest I probably wouldn't bother watching.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree. Out of all the contestants this year the only one I would actively watch would be Lenny. I might watch some of the others if they happened to be on.
ReplyDeletePretty hateful about the "Jew" stuff.
ReplyDeleteBut the more ridiculous thing is that Grace isn't even Jewish. Pretty sure she's a conservative Christian, which probably appeals to a lot of you guys.
We have a longstanding deli here in the MD-DC 'burbs that's been around forever, with enough success to open additional locations. There are cracked and damaged floor tiles, damaged tables, and a décor that hasn't changed in decades.
ReplyDeleteThe place is always packed because the food is good and the service is exemplary.
Why is that a giveaway? You don't refer to the dishes served to you in a restaurant as "our food"? The poster was talking about one meal, so the pronoun is appropriate. If one were commenting over several visits, then one might expect to refer to "their food."
ReplyDeleteGrace.......... Grace. I was sitting at the bar at Houligan's and heard that you were going under and now you are trying to put a LAW Suit against FOOD NETWORK............ Remember you called them they did not call you. You had to prove that you were a total train wreck and all they did was agree............ Pick up the pieces and go back to New York........... BTW who was the good looking Red Head I saw Eddie talking to in the Publix parking Lot
ReplyDeleteI have lived in Lufkin 27 years and have visited Bryan's on several occasion before and after the makeover. I have never been impressed with there food....but felt like giving them another chance. I have went there for the last time....new management or not..it is simply NO GOOD!!! There is no amount of paint or nails that could ever improve that lack of taste this BBQ has ALWAYS had!!!
ReplyDeleteThere are several BBQ places here in town and I can tell you the best BBQ place with the best tasting BBQ in town is not pretty to look at. But the people that run it are warm friendly people that truly care about there food and there customers. So overlooking the decor to have a great plate of food is easy! Most true texans care more about the flavor of the BBQ and the friendly people that serve it than the look of the place it comes from. You can get some of the best BBQ in Texas from a little smoke shack on the side of the road!
I feel bad that Robert wasted his time on Bryan's! I would have liked to have taken Robert to taste what real Texas BBQ is supposed to taste like. It would have been just a very short ride down the road from Bryan's on 69N to STOP in and have a taste straight off their PIT!
do you have to get an account to get to see the posting of the reviews etc
ReplyDeleteBefore Grace bought the restaurant it was packed. The former owner had "issues" not related to the restaurant itself and that is why it was sold. We tried Grace's several times as we live nearby but each time the service was terrible, the food mediocre or bad and the deli/bakery was not as good as it used to be. After watching the RI episode and reading the reviews I will never bother giving it another chance. Shame.
ReplyDeletePeople of all races and backgrounds sometimes "bitch" old, young or somewhere in between... my point is simply there is no need to assign blame to "Jews" or any other religion, race or creed... it is hateful and ignorant...
ReplyDeleteAn old Jew

ReplyDeleteHere is why it fails.
place will be closed soon.... no one wants rat droppings in their food, but did hear that gracie didn't change! still the same ol bitch she was before the show tried to help a sinking ship
ReplyDeleteWOW! Just spend some time at Grace's Place and LOVED every second! The food and service are absolutely amazing! That Reuben was to die for! What a great place to bring my family too! WE LOVE YOU GRACE'S PLACE - in Sunny Palm Coast, FL!!!
ReplyDeleteI was just there. There were two doors. I went intO the one by the counter. They were not paying attention. Did not look up. I did not know if I should order from the counter or sit down??? They should just take orders from the counter. I sat down and ordered the meatloaf burger. She said they were out. I asked her what was good. She said the chicken salad. I ordered that with fries and tea. The tea was old and tasted funny. When she brought the chicken wrap I noticed the fries were soggy. It looked like they needed to turn up the temp on their oil or change it. The chicken salad was good. When I left the door was locked on the dining side so I had to walk all the way around to get out. They did manage to break away from their conversation to say have a nice day. The meal cost 14.00 with tip. Too much. I won't be back.
ReplyDeleteIt was a dump. The show didn't kill it. Grace killed it. I've eaten there 4 times before and after the reno and reality is, the food sucked, the service WORST EVER. Good riddance.
ReplyDeleteI wish Robert would not do BBQ places. He is not an experienced pit master and it shows. Besides that...the place was doomed anyhow.
