Here are some Food Network related news items for your Memorial Day weekend:
- Rewrapped is casting for a second season, so I guess the show was renewed. Ratings were lower than a lot of other primetime shows that get renewed, but I guess they were good enough for a renewal.
- Robert Irvine has plans to open a restaurant in the Pentagon. Not too many details on the restaurant yet, but I would assume it will be in a food court type area.
- Giada De Laurentiis is opening her first restaurant in Las Vegas, and it will open on June 3rd. The restaurant is in The Cromwell hotel, which just recently opened, and Giada appeared at the hotel's nightclub opening event (pictured). She was also presented a key to the Strip earlier in the week.
- The New York City Wine & Food Festival (NYCWFF) announced the chefs/personalities that will appear at this year's event being held from October 16th to 19th in New York City. Pretty much every Food Network personality will be there (also Paula Deen) and tickets go on sale June 9th (presale) and June 23rd (general public).
I was disappointed when I didn't see Alex Guarnaschelli's name on the list. She's my favourite person on the Food Network, and I didn't know why she would miss it. She's from New York, and this is such a big event. She is on the list, but for some odd reason, she's not listed as being part of the Food Network.
ReplyDeleteAutumn you are correct. It's odd that the FN logo isn't on Alex's name as it is on other's names, such as Jamie Deen. Interesting that Paula will be there. She seems to really be trying to make a comeback.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Robert Irvine's restaurant, hubby has been in the Pentagon and said there are food court type setups plus regular sit down restaurants where servers wait on you and a club also. They need those so that when the higher-ups are working with people or have them on a tour, they will then have a place to take them for lunch or dinner without leaving the Pentagon.
ReplyDeleteRatings for Rewrapped could be low. I'd be willing to bet it's their cheapest competition show going since it's the only show without an actual cash prize. Cheap means more wiggle room in terms of viewership.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why Food Network invited Paula Deen... unless they're testing the waters and are considering having her return. I sure hope not.
ReplyDeleteAs odd as it is, I like this show.
ReplyDeleteI'd guess these companies are paying to get their products on the show too. They are probably responsible for the prize too.
ReplyDeleteI had the same exact, mainly because there seems to be a decent amount of more regional brands on this show. I think I've caught at least three episodes whose products I didn't recognize, and I live in Los Angeles!
ReplyDeleteI find the judges take themselves a wee bit too seriously for my taste (a problem with many of the FN competition shows, I'll grant, but at least on Iron Chef America you know where they are coming from.) and all too often the person who bombed round 1 can come back and win it all. IMHO, for a show called "Rewrapped" I think the recreate round should hold much more weight than the innovate round,
ReplyDeleteI love Unwrapped and really wanted to like Rewrapped, but instead I just find I'm bored. Yet I still keep watching...
ReplyDeleteWho is that leering little man in the photo with Giada? I don't recognize him. He looks creepy.
ReplyDeleteI like that both have equal attention. And the judges do seem to take themselves a little too seriously... although maybe that's nerves. It's too easy to come off as stiff if you're not used to being on TV. I think Joey Fatone keeps things light though.
ReplyDeleteMe too. And I watched it the first time expecting to hate it. I think the prize sucks, but I've enjoyed the competition itself.
ReplyDeleteAt one point, Tastykake, Utz's, and other featured brands were generally available in about six states. I grew up on those, living in DC and Maryland and felt a certain local pride in having access to them while other parts of the country hadn't a clue.
ReplyDeleteJoey needs a pronunciation coach, though. On the Utz Pretzel Rods episode he said the company was founded by Bill and Sally Utz. Mrs. Utz was named Salie, which was pronounced "Say-lee." He later referred to the plant being in "Pennsylvania Dutch County," which doesn't exist. It's more likely the script said "Pennsylvania Dutch country," so unless there was a typo at work, Joey needs to preview his material before he records it.
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't pick up on either of those. I would have probably made the same mistakes myself.
ReplyDeleteI had to google for the answer. I found the caption and picture at the link below:
ReplyDelete"Nightlife impresario Victor Drai and celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis
mark the opening of Drai’s Beach Club • Nightclub. De Laurentiis opens
her first-ever restaurant GIADA at The Cromwell June 3"

Both the mispronunciations were in voiceovers. A knowledgeable director should have caught them and corrected him.
ReplyDeleteMy understanding is that the Food & Wine Festival organizers do the inviting, not FN
ReplyDeleteHow on earth did you Google creepy little guy with Giada? LOL Thanks for finding the answer.
ReplyDeleteI did a Google image search of "giada" with "multivu", because it said "multivu" on the bottom of the picture.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I thought that the Food Network organized the festival itself. So are they just the sponsor?
ReplyDeleteLee Schrager is the founder and director of NYCWFF... Food Network is just the main sponsor.
ReplyDeletewhere's the rest of Giada's teeth
ReplyDeleteThanks for the clarification!
ReplyDeleteThanks once again. I wouldn't have thought of that. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you but I'm having some painting done and I had to blaze a trail to my computer.
ReplyDeleteTastykake Butterscotch Krimpets are on the horizon. Love those!
