Sports Stars To Compete on 'Chopped'

Chopped Sports StarsAccording to TVGuide, there will be an upcoming new episode of Chopped that will feature 'Sports Stars.'  This episode is scheduled to air on Tuesday September 3rd at 10pm, and the athletes are competing for charity.  The 'Sports Stars' competing are: Danica Patrick (Auto Racing), Tiki Barber (former NFL running back for the New York Giants), Natalie Coughlin (Olympic Champion Swimmer), and Chuck Zito (I guess being an amateur boxer and martial artist makes him a "Sports Star"?)

The Food Network description states:
Four athletes who feel right at home in the kitchen battle it out for charity. The judges are presented with four salmon dishes to taste for the first course. In the second round chocolate-covered marshmallows seem to be the most stress-inducing ingredient. And figuring out how to transform olive oil cake is the challenge for dessert.

This will be a one episode special, and not a tournament like Chopped All-Stars or anything.

UPDATE - For those wondering who won, Tiki Barber was eliminated after the appetizer, Chuck Zito after the entree, and Natalie Coughlin after the dessert round making Danica Patrick the Chopped winner and winning $10,000 for her charity.

  1. One of the things I love most about Food Network is that it gives far more to charity than any other network I know of. Since a good cause is going to benefit no matter what, I'll overlook the rather loose definition of "sports star." If he brings it home for his charity, he can call himself whatever he likes.

  2. "Chuck Zito (I guess being an amateur boxer and martial artist makes him a "Sports Star"?)"

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Mr. Zito, if he wants to call himself a "Sports Star", I wouldn't want to be the to tell him he's not!!!

  3. While I love theme-based episodes of Chopped, I still want to see actual chefs compete. Johnny Weir was more than enough "sports star" competitor for me, and I'd prefer not to see him and his ilk on Food Network again.

Legitimate "theme" groups might be all caterers, all culinary instructors, or all cookbook authors, but the athletes should be left at their playing venues.

  4. Sounds fun. Natalie Coughlin is big into food and cooking.

  5. I'm sure Danica will perform as well in the kitchen as she does on the race track, and will not proceed past the appetizer round.

  6. Danica actually has very good culinary skills. Has even been to a few cooking schools. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see her win this thing.

  7. These celebrities mean business, they have their competitive faces as if they were treating like a sport. There's a look of intensity and focus, that sometimes I don't see with the usual culinary competitors.
