Justin Warner's Rebel Eats Premieres Tonight - Finally

Justin Warner Rebel EatsThe time has finally come for Next Food Network Star winner Justin Warner's show to air on the Food Network.  His show Rebel Eats premieres tonight at 10pm EST on the Food Network with a replay at 1am EST.  The only other time it is scheduled to air right now is Saturday April 6th at 3pm, so be sure to watch it one of these times or set your DVR.

The show description from the Food Network:

"Season 8 Food Network Star winner Justin Warner is hitting the road for his new show and biggest challenge yet — finding the real culinary rebels of America. Armed with $300 for gas, a beat-up car and a nose for good food and crazy characters, Justin travels the backroads of the South to try everything from Moonshine and Bacon Beer to Deep-fried PB&J, Jellyfish Salad and bowling alley barbecue served in a mason jar."

More info from the Food Network site along with a slide show with where he visits and what he does at each location:
"In his all-new special, Rebel Eats, Justin is hitting the open road — and waters — in search of the most over-the-top eats and drinks across the South. He's tracking down fearless culinary trailblazers like himself and learning their secrets to making deep-fried PB&Js, Tennessee moonshine, bacon-scented stout and more, then joining them in the kitchen to create his own rebellious recipes. "
This is a one hour special pilot, so based on viewership and feedback, the Food Network will decide if they want to produce more episodes in the future.  Based on the feedback from an earlier post here, it sounded like a lot of you were disappointed it was a travel show.  To me, it sounds like a mix between Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (sub mini-van for convertible), Throwdown (minus the competition part), and the traveling budget shows ($24 in 24 and $40 a Day).

I am curious to your opinion on the show.  Excited to see it, or has the long wait diminished your excitement?  Also, after watching it, leave your opinion on what you though about Rebel Eats in the comments section.

  1. Tried to set my dvr to record the series, then discovered there is no series!!!??? What's up? It was a great show and Justin is funny and entertaining. A natural.

  2. It was far from a disappointment. It avoids the homogeneity that is DD&D's downfall, and skips the contrived setup of Throwdown. The real people act like real people, and it manages to be really interesting without being sensational or in-your-face. I really hope the portrait of Alton Brown comes along for all of the road trips...

  3. So great! Funny, entertaining, and made me hungry. Loved all the people he chatted with.

  4. I loved it. It is Justin being Justin and that is why we all fell in love with him. A true Rebel in search of other true Rebels.

  5. Maybe it's just me...I don't think Justin is funny at all...he has an extremely awkward yet dry sense of humor. I'll be sticking to Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. This seems like a terrible spin off of that anyway. I sincerely hope the Food Network does not continue this show.

  6. Total disappointed that this was a traveling show. We didn't get any culinary insight or technique from Justin. A pity becauses he is very talented.

  8. This show was ok, but its not a series, and it is NOT what I voted to see for Justin which was a show directed by AB that would be his show - a cooking show. This is not what FN said for Next Food Network Star.and I shall never watch or vote on their shows outcomes ever again. They LIED - false advertising and nothing of what the next foodnetwork star show promised. Hear that foodnetwork - you LIED and you lost the last of your credibility. I wish Justin all the best but I wanted (and voted) to see him in his own cooking show and I still think that is where he belongs - and not in some rip-off spin-off of Diners DriveIns and Crazy...

  9. The show was a bore. Justin knows plenty , but has the no on air personality. The show was nothing more than a travelogue version of "Outrageous Eats" with a boring host.

  10. It was decent but the article gets it right that its really just a combo of other FN shows so why bother. The pilot concept from the show that won him the title was fairly amusing. So many of these guys take them selves so seriously it might be fun to have a show that rips a bit on the others. Odds are the new Next FN Star starts showing before they have this guy on regularly if at all.

  11. I was not impressed by the show at all. It was an even more annoying version of "No Reservations", lol love that show. Justin has a weird vibe, don't know if I liked it or not.

  12. BTW Have you seen Justin's Miracle Gro ads? Its like he can barely keep from snickering after many of his lines. Good stuff.

  13. Yes I have... Some pretty bad acting in that ad

  14. I really like Justin as a coking persnwlity , but he barely cooked on this show . The jelly fish pasta was the highlight for me . If he had cooked more of that kind of outside of the box food , you'd have a hit .

  15. It was a straight-up copy of Alton Brown's "Feasting on Asphalt" - except with less charm and knowledge of the subject. Pointless. I feel sorry for Justin having to jump through all of those FN hoops for pretty much nothing. A huge waste of everyone's time, effort, and money.

  16. I really liked the show and was looking forward to a nice long season...too bad for me. Doesn't look like he has much of a chance of being the next food network star if he's only on once every 11 months.

  17. Rebel eats was not a bad show, however, it was not the type of show I expected to see Justin doing. I wanted to see him doing a cooking show with the leadership of Alton brown. I think Justin has something very different and special that should not go to waste. If this show doesn't work out for him I hope they try something else. And I would agre that this felt like a spin off of triple d to me

  18. I honestly have never found Justin entertaining or easy to watch...but gave his special a try. It was horrible. He tries to be an "expert", but just comes across as lacking knowledge and he was just very difficult to watch or like.
