Last night's Chef Wanted With Anne Burrell on the Food Network was at Zengo in New York City looking to find a new executive chef for the Asian/Latin fusion restaurant. Despite drama in the second challenge and during his dinner service, David Sears (pictured right) came out with the victory and was offered the executive chef position at Zengo.
So, is David still at Zengo as the chef?
David is from Orlando, Florida, and decided not to take the job and relocate to New York, especially after finding out he was expecting another child with his wife. No shock there.
Chef Wanted's track record continues to not be that great when it comes to the chef actually working out for the restaurant. Maybe they should cast more local chefs for these restaurants if they actually plan on filling the job successfully. The Food Network probably doesn't care as long as people still watch the show, and the restaurants on the show probably do not care as they get the free publicity. The chefs get their name out there and a chance at a job, but maybe they should be offered a choice at the end. Maybe the winning chef can take the job or $5,000, so they do not go home empty handed?
UPDATE 3/6/2013 - Looks like the Ritz-Carlton is trying to cash in on David's television appearance by issuing a press release today saying that he is the Chef de Cuisine at one of their restaurants.
