Ironically, the reason he is not producing the Next Food Network Star winner’s show, is because he will be filming the NEXT season of Next Food Network Star. He recently stated on Twitter that he was preparing a trip to L.A. for Food Network Star.
Also, Onset Productions is casting people to be on the show January 17th and January 19th, where you see Giada De Laurentiis, Bobby Flay, and Alton Brown will all be present. So it looks like they are going with the mentor approach again and will be using the same mentors. Hopefully for next season, the mentor can actually produce the winner’s show.
Here is the link for the casting descriptions (a focus group watching video presentations and a burger taster). So if you are in the Los Angeles area, check it out and let me know how it goes if you are picked.
Justin's recipes and performance last season were exceptionally different, and entertaining. I've actually been wondering what happened to his show, and have spent the past few hours on Food Network's site trying to find out if I had missed his shows somehow or, like Amy Finley, perhaps he has decided against doing a show -- or ended up too problematic? After all the searching today, I'll continue to adore Food Network, but hearing that Justin's show will be more travel than his unique cooking, I doubt I'll watch his show.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe Alton Brown is not producing Justin's show!!! -___-
ReplyDeleteI too am very disappointed. Not only did I love Justin, but loved the interaction of him and Alton. Think Food Nework screwed the pooch on this one. Took too long to get this going and lost the opportunity to have two kindred souls work together, who would have produced an awsome show.
ReplyDeleteLike many of the others, the "dream team" of Alton Brown and Justin Warner was too much to pass up on. I honestly believe this is why the combo won. People wanted to see Justin tear down the walls of culinary wisdom - his pilot re-do of Alton's Caesar salad was the reason I voted for him. I wanted that show to happen. FN has saddled the rebel and the reason to watch Justin has just been lost. Sorely disappointed FN, sorely disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThey have been screwing around with this way too long. The moment has been lost.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I am concerned if this show is aired and I happen to be watching, then I'll watch. But I am not going to allocate time. It just doesn't seem to be worth all the drama.
I don't believe this is the reason. There were how many months between the time Justin won and the time Alton Brown would have to start filming the next season of "Food Network Star"? They had plenty of time for Alton to produce Justin's show before Alton got busy with that. My guess is that Food Network didn't like what Alton and Justin wanted to do, and after haggling back and forth about the format, Alton was forced out. So of course now Justin's show will be a lot more like all the other "travel and eat" shows on Food Network than it could have been, and all of us are going to lose out because of that.
ReplyDeletethat is the purpose of the teams and mentors is that the mentor of the winning team has their name as producer of that persons show!!
ReplyDeletePart of the lure of last season's Next Food Network Star was that Alton Brown would produce Justin's show. The way they've put it off and Alton backing out has set up the show for failure. If Food Network is not going to deliver on its promises/promotions, then why bother watching? I, for one, do not plan to watch Next Food Network Star any more.
ReplyDeleteSo I guess I just wasted my time watching a marathon of this show, only to find out that the prize doesn't really happen. Glad I found out before I waste anymore time watching the 9th season. Too bad, I would have watched Justin's show, as it was promised to its viewers. Not some stupid travel show that anybody could do. Food network, do you not see the gift you were given with Justin Warner? In this age of foodies, we can go anywhere to see another cook. Good grief, you have somebody that can show us a new and unique way to see food, are you not called "the food network?
ReplyDeleteReally? Gelatinized salad dressing doesn't sound appealing but to each his own.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to find out why only one episode of Rebel Eats was aired. This is totally disappointing, because that show was great for a first episode. I can't believe how many pathetically boring, anti-creative, not-really-cooking shows FN has on its program list (Trisha Yearwood, Sandra Open-a-Can-and-Call-It-Cooking Lee, Melissa d'Arabian, to name a few), and yet Justin is nowhere. I think FN "Bourdained" him. What a rip-off. Shame on you, FN. Talk about dumbing down your programming.
ReplyDeleteThe reason the show was never produced was because they wanted Justin to travel around the country talking about other people's food and not having the show based on him and what he cooks with his "rebel with a culinary cause" stuff, and Justin refused to do it any other way. I'm disappointed that after all that we'll never see what he might have been, but I applaud him for sticking to his guns. It took a lot of balls to walk away from such an unbelievable and lucrative opportunity based on principle.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a shame, but what is even more of a disappointment is what the Food Network has become. Nothing but empty headed competition shows...food being forgotten. I haven't checked their ratings lately, but just from looking at what they're showing on FN versus Cooking Channel, it looks like Guy Fieri took over FN with the newer shows airing elsewhere. It's such a shame as there was once a time when I watched FN all the time, these days I barely even bother to watch.
ReplyDeleteI truly am disappointed that Justin will not have his own show and am totally baffled at the idea that they wanted him to travel instead of cook as that was his draw...but then again, they don't seem to be producing cooking shows anymore. At this point, I feel it's all a scam, so why even bother. FN, are you listening?
