Rachael Vs Guy Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

Rachael Vs Guy Season 2

Tonight on Food Network was the season 2 premiere of Rachael Vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off, which began with the celebrities being introduced along with the charities they are competing for.  The celebrities were then picked to form Team Rachael and Team Guy.

Team Rachael  - Gilbert Gottfried, Kathy Najimy, Hines Ward, and Carnie Wilson

Team Guy - Chilli, Cornelia Guest, Dean McDermott, and Johnny Weir

The first challenge was to prepare a tasting menu to feed about a 100 guests and Team Rachael went with a potluck theme, while Team Guy went with a Western theme.  The teams had to present their dishes to the crowd with (horrible) performances that went along with their themes.

Gilbert Gottfried lived up to his last pick status, and decided to go with peanut butter and jelly, but to 'spice it up' Rachael Ray suggested sprinkling cinnamon and sugar on it (genius!).

Chilli had the favorite dish of the night for Team Guy with her tilapia taco, and Team Guy ended up winning the challenge.  This meant 2 members from Team Rachael were up for elimination, which ended up being Kathy Najimy for her bland mushroom dish, and of course Gilbert Gottfried for his 'spiced up' peanut butter and jelly.

In the elimination challenge Kathy decided to make hummus, and Gilbert boldly decided to go with..... peanut butter and jelly again.  It was supposed to be a blind taste test, but of course Rachael and Guy knew who did the peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  After tasting both, it was decided that Gilbert Gottfried was going to be eliminated from the first episode leaving Team Rachael with 3 members left.

I don't think someone cooking vegetarian or healthy food will be able to win the competition, so Kathy, Cornelia, and Johnny are ruled out in my opinion.  Who do you think is going to win the competition this year?

  1. I have longed enjoyed the Food Network competition shows even though it easy to assume that most things are planned and staged. Lately though it seems they are getting very lazy about even pretending that the competition is real. This whole show was just bad last night and my expectations were pretty low.

  2. i couldn't even watch the whole episode - i felt embarrassed watching the 'performances' and then the pb&j. why was he even on the show if he couldn't cook at all? what a joke, or maybe that was the point :p i basically tuned out when i realized the only 'celebrity' (that's still hilarious - i still don't even know who 3/4 of these people are) worth watching was going to go home right away.

  3. Something makes me think it was planned to go down that way...remember Aaron Carter couldn't cook last year and was first to get the boot.  Almost seems like they put on a "throwaway" celebrity on purpose.

  4. Yeah it was obvious Gilbert would be the first out since he really had no cooking expertise and was the most vocal about it. I mean really PB sandwhiches only?!I had hopes for Johnny but it obviously backfired on him to not listen to Guy's coaching he forgets hes cooking for others and not for himself so its not about what you want to cook. Kathy's case makes sense shes cookng vegan since she is competing for Peta but they overemphasise that its for her daughter... Cornelia doesnt strike me as a strong cook. I think it will be a toss up between Carnie, Dean, and Chili in the end they seem to be the most passionate and experienced.

Butl its still early to call.

  5. VERY weak cast this season, barely anyone worth watching and rooting for here. Two vegetarian/vegan cooks?  Seriously?  One thankfully-gone idiot in Gottfried?  So far this is just bad, barely watchable.  It's a shame.

  6. Like the premise of this show but can't stand either one of the over-exposed hosts.

  7. It seems obvious that since Rachael won last season Guy is being set up to win this season. A man won last season so a woman will probably win this season. That leaves Chili as the clear front-runner.

  8. I don't think that's necessarily true. Anne Burrell won three seasons in a row on Worst Cooks.

  9. My husband and I were really lookiing forward to this season but were so terribly disappointed. To be specific, Gilbert Gottfried was just pathetic and not up to par for this competition. How can you get really into vegans and vegetarians? It seems like the shows producers are either not checking out the competition or it's just too hard to find interest. Gilbert was the last teammate chosen which makes us feel Rachel and Guy knew something we viewers were not privey to.:(

  12. I cannot STAND Kathy Najimy! She doesn't seem to know much at all about vegetarian cooking despite running her mouth about it incessently. And anyone who knows anything about PETA knows they kill more animals than they save. I will forever love hocus pocus...but that is where my positivity for her ends.
